New Orleans
Sometimes known as the "Big easy", New orleans is the largest city in Louisiana, and one of the oldest cities in the united States. As of the 2000 census, its population was 484,674.
In 2005, hurricane Katrina caused the city's evacuation. Parts of the city were flooded and there was extensive damage from both flooding and the winds. New orleans has been recovering since then, with people gradually returning - as of october 2006, the population was estimated as 187,525, although this figure is disputed by some.
There are many reasons to visit New orleans: The city is known for its rich history and French heritage, its unique culture, excellent food, jazz music, and most especially for the Mardi Gras celebrations.
