Setting Up the SunRocket Gizmo

VOIP is the transmission of voice traffic over IP-based networks. The internet Protocol or IP was originally designed for data transmission. The success of IP in becoming a world standard for data transfer has led to its adaption to voice transfer.

To connect a regular phone to the internet so that voice can be tranmitted over it, a voip adpater is needed. Sunrocket calls it voip adapter "the Gizmo". Setting up the SunRocket gizmo is very simple. There are two ways you can set up the gizmo. Your home network setup will dictate how you will set up the gizmo.

Scenario 1- If you do not have a router and only one pc or laptop that connects to the internet via an internet modem, follow the steps below. Currently your pc and your phone will be connected to the modem. Unplug the pc and the phone from the modem. connect the gizmo to the modem. Then connect the pc and the phone to the gizmo.

                                  ---> PC/Laptop                                  DSL modem --> SunRocket GIZMO -->|                            ---> phone
Scenario 2- If you have a wireless router and you have one or more pcs/laptops connected to the router, follow the steps below.

Currently your wireless router and your phone will be connected to the modem. Unplug the wireless router and the phone from the modem. connect the gizmo to the modem. Then connect the wireless router and the phone to the gizmo.

                                  ---> wireless router ---> Multiple PC/Laptop DSL modem --> SunRocket GIZMO -->|                                                          ---> phone
The above steps will be easy to visualize if you remember to connect the gizmo to your modem first and then connect your devices to the gizmo.
